Summer Camp “EL CENTRO”
We continued providing recreational and educational opportunities for children 7-12 years old from our community. El CSSP creates an opportunity for families and children from immigrant communities to receive free tutoring in numeracy and literacy while enjoying recreational activities during summer. The objectives are to instil the habit of daily exercising, increase knowledge of healthy eating choices and devote at least two hours of tutoring math and English per day.
Youth Feeding Youth (YFY) Food Bank
We continued with our youth-led, volunteer-driven food bank project – Youth Feeding Youth (YFY). YFY served over 500 low-income households providing access to food twice a month. The CSSP remains a member agency of the North York Harvest Food bank and our Food bank connects its users to other services in our agency and in the community at large.
After School Tutoring Program with Teach2Learn
CSSP and Teach2Learn continued to positively impact the lives of over 50 Hispanic/Latin American children through the help of 25 youth-tutors in 4 schools in Toronto: St. Jude’s, St. Francis de Sales, St. Jane Frances Catholic School and Emery Collegiate Institute. This project stresses the importance of the arts and the guidance for school tasks imparted by older Teach2Learn youth, teachers, parents and volunteers.
