Role and Responsibilities

Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples is a multi service agency serving the needs of the Spanish Speaking community in Toronto and the GTA with over 35 years of operation. We are currently seeking to fill the position of a four month contract, beginning immediately until June 30th 2010, HIV/AIDS Men’s Outreach Coordinator – HIV/AIDS Prevention and Support Program. This position reports to the Programs and Services Director. The position is a short term contract. This position requires availability to work weekends and evenings.

CSSP is seeking a strategic thinker with an ability to creatively design outreach and prevention strategies, increase of awareness of the realities faced by Latinos MSM.  Community Education & Outreach

·         Increase awareness of issues faced by gay men, through advocacy and educational services including: Co-coordination and facilitation of workshops, information sessions and support groups for gay men, positive and negative regarding HIV prevention, stigma and support.

·         Bathhouse outreach: Includes weekly outreach, safe sex discussions, quantitative and qualitative data collection, workshops and tours of bathhouses for newcomers, plus creating a working dialogue with bathhouses, ensuring that there is a presence of information through pamphlets and posters and safe sex hits within bathhouses. ·         Creation of promotional and educational materials targeting Spanish Speaking community. Networking & Public Relations·         Functions as a liaison on behalf of the association with funding agencies, the media and the public·         Organize public education campaigns·         Act as a resource person to Staff of the Centre other agencies and community groups, advocacy, lobbying and participate in networking activities.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

·         University  Degree in Public Health, Social and/or Health services; or Diploma with relevant work experience in these fields

·         Minimum of 2 years working in health promotion, HIV/AIDS prevention and outreach to diverse communities

·         Comfort with all sexual topics and practices, effective interpersonal skills

·         Demonstrated experience facilitating workshops, and outreach in gay venues including bath houses, Internet Outreach, social groups and in community activities.

·         Proven computer skills

·         Experience in maintaining records and providing both written and oral reports

·         Fluent in Spanish and English – both spoken and written
